And on Friday I was listening to the Liberty Belle album, planning to write a piece for Nightwatchman about how in 1986, first hearing Spring Rain and Cattle & Cane helped me become the skewiff kid I am today.
that's so weird because seeing the go-betweens performing Cattle and Cane on Countdown remains burned into my memory as the definitive australian 'art' rock moment of the 80's , like you it was an important moment when I realised that there were a whole bunch of likeminded nut jobs with high buttoned shirts and bad hair that I could get to know once I left the country...a sad passing indeed.
I heard about it on my iRiver on the train going to work on Monday morning on RRR. They played 'Bye Bye Pride' and I started crying. Very embarassing but a testament to his music and his live shows.

Really, how lucky was I to be turning teenage that the Go Betweens, Talking Heads and Midnight Oil all had songs playing every day on the radio?
